I'm not going to sit here and tell you that this time is an opportunity to [blank]. I think right now it's important to remember that this situation isnt an ~opportunity~ at all. That being able to stay at home is a privilege. That home doesn't mean safe for everyone (domestic violence cases have surged as people are trapped with abusive partners, people are being evicted and losing their jobs, their loved ones…) and we, as people with platforms have to be sensitive to that. Shouting about how much you are 'enjoying the down time', even if you are right now probably isn't the helpful. ⁣ In terms of handling this though, I'm not sure you can do this 'well'. Whether youre waking up, working out and having a structured day because that helps you, or you have woken up late every day, not got dressed, and stared at the TV all day (like me), you're doing fine. You don't need to 'use' this time. Let yourself adjust. Be kind to yourself and take it slow. This is a lot to process. ⁣ ⁣ First week I did great. I was managing to stay positive and up for adjusting, but this week I've struggled, I've been overly stressed by the knock on effects of this virus on mine and my family's lives, on how to find work, how to help and show up in the right way, and subsequently I've been bed bound with a flare up of Costochondritis from stress. ⁣ ⁣ I guess the only thing I know is that after this we should have woken the fuck up. ⁣So many things we asked for 'weren't possible' until this, but it shouldn't take a global pandemic to wake up to ~basic~ human rights requests. NHS employees should have free parking outside of a pandemic. They should be paid more. It should be funded. Homeless people should be housed regardless. The list goes on.⁣ ⁣ If we care about this now, we must shout about it and vote for it later. 📢⁣ ⁣ But for now, take care of yourselves, go slow and remember, even if you're doing nothing at home, you're doing it right. ⁣ ⁣

🗣 CHATS FROM THE MAT . 🥰 In such troubling, worrying, strange, and isolating times I have been SO touched and encouraged by the kindness I’ve seen demonstrated by so many people in so many walks of life . ⛅️ To use a dreadful cliché ‘Every cloud has a silver lining’; I think this is so true in this current state of affairs: . ⏺ The fact that so many people stood outside of their homes last night and clapped for all of the @nhswebsite heroes ⏺ The gratitude people are showing online, on the phone, in person (whilst out shopping for essentials) for everyday people doing extraordinary jobs ⏺ The community spirit shown up and down the country (in my village we have a whatsapp group where everyone looks out for everyone else and buys supplies where necessary etc) ⏺ The care for the elderly and more vulnerable . 💪🏻So, I want to do my bit. Alongside my online classes I am going to join the throng of Instagram Lives with a series of IG Live’s from the comfort of my Pilates mat with inspiring people (some you will have heard of, others not) to try and inspire and support YOU a little bit during this period of isolation . *️⃣ First up is @chloebrotheridge who I will be talking to about anxiety, and how to deal with anxiety around Coronavirus. If you can’t tune in today I will save the live and post it for you all to see at a later date . 💚 If there is anyone that inspires you that you would love to see on ‘Chats From The Mat’ lemme know in the comments below. I do hope you enjoy these convo’s . . . #chatsfromthemat #seeyouonthemat #pilatespt #selfisolation #strongwomen #thepilatespt #wellnessinterview

This is such a weird time. I won’t even lie to you. I keep looking at my parents like “ummm explain…” and they’re like ⁣ ⁣ “Can’t help kiddo. WTF.”⁣ ⁣ Obviously there’s terrible things happening. People are dying. Jobs are being lost. Economies and businesses will be crushed by this pause. We’re seeing now how precious and fragile all of our infrastructures are. And how lacking many systems are. We’re also seeing the helpers of the world being stretched to the max. Hospital staff. Sanitation workers. Grocery staff. Pharmacists. There’s shortages of things we never thought would be in short supply.⁣ ⁣ So now is the time to ask ourselves, what world do we want to emerge from out of all of this? When systems are fragile that’s actually the best possible time for repair and for listening to what the world needs. So what sort of world do you want to live in? ⁣ ⁣ Do you want to live in a world where unchecked capitalism means hourly workers for stores that sell non essential items have to work during a pandemic when folks are told to clear the street? Do we want to live in a world where big business drops all their contracts with suppliers thus sending economies into economic despair and yet again dumping on the most vulnerable within the supply chain?⁣ ⁣ Do we want to live in a world where our governments concoct a plan to bail out big business (many of which can take the hit … if they weren’t so top heavy) but not the small businesses and the freelancers? Do we want to live in a world where the fossil fuel industry continues to get away with wrecking the world and ripping up neighbourhoods where vulnerable people live, when we should actually be moving towards renewable resources?⁣ Many remark on what wonders this time will do for the environment which sounds pretty ecofascist-y if we’re not noting that people don’t have to die for these changes but certain businesses have to cease operation in the near future. ⁣ What sort of world do you want to live in? Think about it during this time. Because I don’t want to go back to the world we’re leaving behind during this pause. No way. Because it’s clearly not working for most people.

Happy Monday. 🌸🌸 ~ Last week my literary agent called me to inform me that my book could potentially be pushed back to a later date this year. Although I was so excited to release it and plan a book tour around the world, I knew that the next few months for some will be a year of healing mentally, spiritually and financially. Each day I focus my energy on the positives out of this situation, I haven’t actually had a day off this year since opening my salon, getting to the final stages of the book and being a content creator so it feels so rewarding to have that time to myself to nap, think and just be still. Had I not had this time I probably would’ve kept going till my body tried to stop me. I also got to have quality time with my home to clear out cupboards that had been hoarding old leaflets and junk that no longer served it’s purpose. So although we have all been affected in some way, this part of our story does not define us. It makes us stronger. We are survivors and we should be so grateful right now because of it. Today on @Prettybigdealpod I got to sit down with @jayshetty! He is a podcast host and author who once studied to be a monk for three years. He inspires me and million of others daily. It’s a perfect episode for keeping our zen in quarantine (I’m on week three? I think? 🤔) I love this part of the episode because every morning since this started, I check in with my friends and loved ones and say how are you feeling? It’s SO important we understand ourselves and loved ones right now and how we’re REALLY feeling. It can change day to day for me, but if I know how I’m feeling I can address it and get back on a positive track. I’m also going on IG live today with Jay at 2pm EST— We’re answering all your questions about love and relationships in quarantine! I’m so interested to hear how you all are handling that! Jay’s podcast episode is LIVE wherever you listen to podcasts 🔈 and drops on youtube at 3pm EST! 📺
