I'm not going to sit here and tell you that this time is an opportunity to [blank]. I think right now it's important to remember that this situation isnt an ~opportunity~ at all. That being able to stay at home is a privilege. That home doesn't mean safe for everyone (domestic violence cases have surged as people are trapped with abusive partners, people are being evicted and losing their jobs, their loved ones…) and we, as people with platforms have to be sensitive to that. Shouting about how much you are 'enjoying the down time', even if you are right now probably isn't the helpful. In terms of handling this though, I'm not sure you can do this 'well'. Whether youre waking up, working out and having a structured day because that helps you, or you have woken up late every day, not got dressed, and stared at the TV all day (like me), you're doing fine. You don't need to 'use' this time. Let yourself adjust. Be kind to yourself and take it slow. This is a lot to process. First week I did great. I was managing to stay positive and up for adjusting, but this week I've struggled, I've been overly stressed by the knock on effects of this virus on mine and my family's lives, on how to find work, how to help and show up in the right way, and subsequently I've been bed bound with a flare up of Costochondritis from stress. I guess the only thing I know is that after this we should have woken the fuck up. So many things we asked for 'weren't possible' until this, but it shouldn't take a global pandemic to wake up to ~basic~ human rights requests. NHS employees should have free parking outside of a pandemic. They should be paid more. It should be funded. Homeless people should be housed regardless. The list goes on. If we care about this now, we must shout about it and vote for it later. 📢 But for now, take care of yourselves, go slow and remember, even if you're doing nothing at home, you're doing it right.
